Red Shirts managed to break a police barricade before conducting their bloody protest.
Thousands of protesters have donated blood in makeshift tents.
A small group of Red Shirt supporters have begun throwing blood on the ground outside the Thai parliament in Bangkok.
Tens of thousands of protesters have marched on the parliament carrying hundreds of litres of blood donated by their supporters. A small number of protesters and media managed to make it through a small gap in the police barricade and reach the front gates of parliament.
The number of Red Shirts demonstrating in the Thai capital appears to have shrunk dramatically compared to those present in recent days.
The group's leaders are still shouting that they will force prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to resign, but not as many people are listening.
Since the weekend about 100,000 Red Shirts have demonstrated in support of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, but that number has shrunk by about two-thirds.
Thousands of supporters had lined up to donate their blood in makeshift tents.
In a queasy spectacle, the blood was pushed from syringes into large bottles.
If the government continues to refuse to resign, the Red Shirts say they will take more donations and throw blood at the prime minister's house on Wednesday.
