Vaio P - Pocket PC

The words "low key" and "Sony" don't often pop up in the same sentence, especially not when you're talking about the launch of a highly anticipated product such as the Vaio P, but unfortunately, those were the only words that we could muster up when looking back at the events that took place yesterday.

Held in Sony Malaysia's office at Mid Valley, the Vaio P was launched with minimal fuss to a room full of journos - a stark contrast from the in-your-face PS3 launch last year, and even their usually prim and propper Bravia launches. Was this a sign of tough times ahead? We can't say for sure (even though Sony did post their first loss in 14 years), but enough about that for now.

Between the two flavors that are available, the fully fledged P15 and toned down P13, one thing is undeniable - the Vaio P is a bloody stylish netbook pocket style PC. However, once you get past the sexy form factor and gleaming exterior, you might be a tad surprised to find the specs a little light weight

The P15 comes with an Intel Atom Processor Z530 (aren't all Atom powered notebooks automatically called netbooks?), 2GB of RAM, and a 64GB SSD, while the P13 comes with a Intel Atom Processor Z520, 2GB of RAM, and a 60GB HDD. In terms of connectivity, both models come with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth. The P15 ships with a set of noise cancelation ear phones as well as a LAN/Display USB dongle, whereas owners of the P13 will be required to buy the dongle as an additional accessory.

The other thing that caught our attention was the quick boot feature which allows you to boot up the Vaio P into a interface that's pretty similar to that on the PSP. In this quick boot mode, you can listen to music, watch videos and even surf the net without having to wait a whole minute or so to boot up Windows. Oh yeah, these ship with Windows Vista, NOT Windows 7.

Maybe, just maybe, a more elaborate launch will take place then.

Lacie Storage RAID disk 5 TB

I never really cared much for storage devices before this, no matter how funky they looked or how exciting the press releases made them sound. Ok, so maybe I was taken a back a little by the singular red light on this LaCie storage unit, but what really caught my attention was the insane amount of data that this monster could hold - a whopping ten terabytes.

Achievable by providing you with five hot-swappable drive bays, the aptly named 5big Network claims to be "the most complete five-bay RAID solution for small and medium workgroups or offices that need large storage and backup capacity, improved performance and advanced security."

But as always, with great volumes comes a great price tag. The 10TB 5big Network retails at US$2,099 on the LaCie website. Ouch.

PaceMaker DJ

I have been fascinated by the art of DJing for the longest time now, and I almost flipped when I discovered this dinky new handheld DJing solution called the Pacemaker. Produced by a Swedish company called Tonium, the Pacemaker prides itself as being the world's first pocket-sized DJ system.

Designed to fit snugly in medium to large sized palms, the Pacemaker features 60GB of storage, two "turntables" and a mixer all in one small package. You'll also get access to two audio channels - one for output, the other for cueing - a one-touch beatmatching button, a full set of audio effects, as well as a crossfader.

Retail for this baby is a rather steep US$499.99, and since it's not officially available here it will probably cost more to get it from a reseller but that's not going to stop us (me) from wanting one bad. More information on the Pacemaker can be found on the official website at: http://www.pacemaker.net/

P1 Max Wimax technology

Remember that new "desktop series modem" from P1 I was larking about during my trip to JB for the WiMAX Conference not too long ago? Well, it looks like the modem has finally managed to find it's way out of the engineering labs and will be unleashing WiMAX, WiFi and voice (over-WiMAX) functionality to homes very soon.

Called the DV230, this next-gen desktop unit was developed with the help of previously collected customer input and integrates WiFi router functionality to deliver truly wireless, hassle-free Internet connectivity to multiple users from one device with just one connection.

“The DV230 WiMAX modem is designed based on customers’ feedback. These customers have enjoyed the high-performance wireless benefits of P1 W1MAX and want an easy-to-setup device to share the speed and performance of P1 W1MAX without the associated costs of purchasing additional equipments. The DV230 delivers this and makes next-generation wireless broadband access affordable. As a customer-centric telco, we will continuously improve our product and service offerings to always deliver what our customers want and fulfill the P1 brand promise of providing broadband for all,” -- Michael Lai, Chief Executive Officer, P1.

The DV230 is also future ready with next-generation voice capabilities. The device is equipped with a port that allows normal phones to be plugged straight into the modem. This will offer the option of future product and service upgrades to P1’s subscribers without incurring much additional costs.

The DV230 is available with 12- and 24-months subscription plans. As an added bonus, the DV230 is provided free with two years warranty for the device when customers subscribe to selected 24-months P1 W1MAX plans. Users of the current DS300 modem (a.k.a. the alarm clock) can upgrade to the DV230 by purchasing a unit from the P1 Paddock at RM499.

When the iPhone is connected to the MiLi power pack, the MiLi’s internal smart chip efficiently prioritizes power consumption. The iPhone will continue to use the battery until the MiLi’s remaining charge is less than 5 percent. When the MiLi battery is less than 5% charged, the internal iPhone battery power source is used. The iPhone battery power source is always used last so it can maintain its maximum charge.

Thanks to MiLi's smart chip you can extend your iPhone battery life by using the iPhone battery only when it's absolutely necessary. Feel like slimming down? Just disconnect the iPhone from the Mili and you will have a fully charged phone to take with you. Leave your MiLi to charge and re-attach at your will. Dell Adamo Desire

The much hyped and long anticipated Dell Adamo finally dropped here in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. Unveiled in a low-key casual media gathering, we managed to get our grubby hands all over the new machine that Dell proudly call the "thinnest laptop in the world". The name Adamo is derived from the Latin word meaning "to fall in love," and will serve as Dell's flagship line of products that focus on design aesthetics, personalization choices and sought-after technologies.

The first thing we noticed about the Dell Adamo was the slick screwless chassis that was milled out of a singlepiece of aluminum, much like the unibody Macbooks. Not only did the unibody chassis look and feel good, but it added the much needed rigidness to an otherwise incredibly delicate machine. Speaking of other Mac inspired design cues, the Dell Adamo also comes with a sexy backlit keyboard and a slick edge-to-edge glass display over it's 13.4-inch (16:9) HD display.

Available in two configurations - the fully fledged Desire and the lighter specced Admire - the top-of-the line Dell Adamo Desire runs on an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.4GHz processor with Intel Centrino technology, 4GB of 800MHz DDR3 memory and a 128GB Solid State Drive. For a couple of thousand Ringgit less, the Dell Adamo Admire comes a little toned down with an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.2GHz processor, and 2GB of 800GHz DDR3 memory instead.

Both models feature a variety of connectivity options such as WiFi, Bluetooth, an eSATA port for an external hard drive, 2 USB ports, and a display port for an additional screen. There is also talk of matching accessories to come, which include the likes of external storage options as well as external optical drives. According to the press release, an option to include mobile broadband connectivity is also in the pipeline, but details on that are rather sketchy now.

Available in both Pearl (white) and Onyx (black).

For more information on the Dell Adamo, as well as detailed specifications of the two models, visit Dell's website at:

Acer Aspire 3935 'Mini' Notebook

Since Apple kicked off the "minimalist" trend in computing oh so many years ago, the term has been used and reused by many other brands to varying degrees of success. I personally thought that the term died off some time last year, when computers started popping up on shelves with laser engravings and other wild adornments, but it looks like at least one other brand (apart from Apple) is going back to slick lines and no nonsense styling.

That brand is Acer, and the emergence of their latest ultra-portable notebook (another term we haven't heard in a while), the Aspire 3935, is definitely a sight for sore eyes (especially after the Predator).

Measuring 13.3-inches, the Aspire 3935 offers unprecedented mobility options as it comes with built-in WiFi and WiMAX receivers. Even though our local WiMAX infrastructure doesn't support non-vendor receivers just yet, it doesn't hurt to futureproof yourself. Furthermore, selected models in the Aspire 3935 range can be specified with an optional 3G port. Now that's mobility.

In terms of computing prowess, the Aspire 3935 is driven by Intel Centrino 2 processor technology that features the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors and Mobile Intel GM45 Express chipset with integrated 3D graphics. It also supports up to 4 GB of DDR3 1066 MHz and is available with or without an optical drive. It also comes with a LED backlit display panel that supports 1336 x 768 pixel resolutions, and can be configured to come with an 8-cell battery.

Symptoms of Infection.

The symptoms of this new H1N1 flu virus in people are similar to the symptoms of seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people who have been infected with this new H1N1 virus also have reported diarrhea and vomiting. The high risk groups for novel H1N1 flu are not known at this time but it’s possible that they may be the same as for seasonal influenza. People at higher risk of serious complications from seasonal flu include people age 65 years and older, children younger than 5 years old, pregnant women, people of any age with chronic medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), and people who are immunosuppressed (e.g., taking immunosuppressive medications, infected with HIV).

How to Prevent in Infection to self

The four key things to do that will help in preventing you from getting the H1N1 Flu or Swine Flu:
    1. Wash Your Hands
    2. Cover Your Cough
    3. Don't Touch Your Face
    4. Stay Away from People Who are Sick

CDC Recommendation
CDC recommends the use of oseltamivir or zanamivir for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with swine influenza viruses.

    * Oseltamivir (brand name Tamiflu ®) is approved to both treat and prevent influenza A and B virus infection in people one year of age and older.
    * Zanamivir (brand name Relenza ®) is approved to treat influenza A and B virus infection in people 7 years and older and to prevent influenza A and B virus infection in people 5 years and older.

Check with your physician to find out if you would need to take one of these medications to prevent or treat Swine Flu.

US Occupation Forces Torture Iraqi POW's

Photographs of alleged prisoner abuse that Barack Obama is attempting to censor include images of apparent rape and sexual abuse, it has emerged.

***Detail description**

""--Today, new photographs were sent to La Voz de Aztlan from confidential sources depicting the shocking rapes of two Iraqi women by what are purported to be US Military Intelligence personnel and private US mercenaries in military fatigues. It is now known that hundreds of these photographs had been in circulation among the troops in Iraq. The graphic photos were being swapped between the soldiers like baseball cards.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, one Mexican-American soldier told La Voz de Aztlan, “Maybe the officers didn’t know what was going on, but everybody else did. I have seen literally hundreds of these types of pictures.” Many of the pictures were destroyed last September when the luggage of soldiers was searched as they left Iraq, he said

An investigation, led by Army Major General Antonio M. Taguba, identified two military intelligence officers and two civilian contractors for the Army as key figures in the abuse cases at the Abu Ghraib prison. In an internal report on his findings, Major General Taguba said he suspected that the four were “either directly or indirectly responsible for the abuses at Abu Ghraib and strongly recommended disciplinary action.”

The Taguba report states that “military intelligence interrogators and other U.S. Government Agency interrogators actively requested that Military Police guards set physical and mental conditions for favorable interrogation of witnesses.” The report noted that one civilian interrogator, a contractor from a company called CACI International and attached to the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade, “clearly knew his instructions” to the Military Police equated to physical and sexual abuse. It is not known whether these instructions included, or led to, the raping of Iraqi women detainees as well. --"" source google.com
