Cemetery collector with 29 bodies arrested

A still image taken from undated police footage shot inside the flat of Anatoly Moskvin and released to Reuters on November 8, 2011. It shows books, clothes and dressed figures, reportedly mummified bodies desecrated from cemeteries.

Russian police have arrested a man described by local media as the "cemetery collector" for digging up 29 corpses and dressing the remains in female clothing to display around his flat.

Grainy police video images of the man's cramped flat showed what look like several life-sized female dolls without faces, some with platinum blond wigs.

With more than 160 levels, the Burj also holds the record for having the highest outdoor observation deck - on floor 124 - and the lift which travels the longest distance.

'For 14 days we were all in pitch darkness. There was no night and no day. We begged God to help us': The amazing first interview with one of the trapped Chilean miners

He is the undisputed star of the Chilean mine rescue. When Mario Sepulveda became the second miner to surface after 69 days trapped half-a-mile below ground, his cheeky gift of souvenir rocks for the Chilean president combined with his wildly enthusiastic chants of ‘Viva Chile’ alongside his rescuers led to him being dubbed Super Mario on newspaper front pages around the world.

Since his rescue, the charismatic 40-year-old heavy-equipment operator has been deluged with lucrative media offers, including the chance to host his own Chilean TV show.

But yesterday Mario, speaking from his hospital bed before being released last night – leaving only one of the 33 in the care of doctors – spoke exclusively to The Mail on Sunday and revealed how his jaunty facade was hiding a man tormented by the ‘nightmare’ of what he and the others faced for the initial 17 days after they were trapped – fearing they would starve to death in their underground tomb.

Together again: Mario Sepulveda with his daughter Scarlette, wife Katty and son Franco. Mario has broken the miners 'pact of silence' as he believes there are certain truths about his time in the mine which need to be told

On his way: Mario was the second miner to make the journey to the surface

UFO brought the streets of New York to a standstill... on the very day predicted by retired US Air Force general

Was it a bird? A plane? A flying jellyfish? Or just a set of balloons that had caught the sunlight?

A mysterious set of shiny objects sparked a UFO alert over Manhattan yesterday when they were spied drifting over the trendy Chelsea district.

Traffic ground to a halt and thousands of people stopped in the street to point at the sky and the cluster of dots hovering overhead.

Police and the Federal Aviation Authority were deluged with calls and despite mounting an investigation were unable to ascertain what it was.

Las Vegas hotel guests left with severe burns from 'death ray' caused by building's design

Guests at a new hotel in Las Vegas have complained of receiving severe burns from a 'death ray' of sunlight caused by the unique design of the building.

Due to the concave shape of the Vdara hotel, the strong Nevada sun reflects off its all-glass front and directly onto sections of the swimming pool area below.

The result has left some guests with burns from the powerful rays and even plastic bags have been recorded as melting in the heat.
Chicago attorney Bill Pintas felt the power of the dangerous ray first hand last week.

'It felt like I had a chemical burn. I couldn't imagine why my head was burning,' he said.

'Within 30 seconds, the back of my legs were burning. My first though was, 'Jesus, they destroyed the ozone layer!'

The United Nations is set to appoint Malaysian astrophysicist Datuk Dr Mazlan Othman to act as Earth’’s first contact for any aliens that may come visiting.

Mazlan, the head of the UN’s little-known Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), is to describe her potential new role next week at a scientific conference at the Royal Society’s Kavli conference centre in Buckinghamshire, according to the www.news.com.au website.

It reported that she is scheduled to tell delegates that the recent discovery of hundreds of planets around other stars has made thedetection of extraterrestrial life more likely than ever before — and that means the UN must be ready to coordinate humanity’s response to any “first contact”.

Its journey to the launch pad followed the same routine as any of its past 38 flights.

But as Space Shuttle Discovery was towed the 3.5 miles to Cape Canaveral last night there was a bittersweet, almost funereal, air to proceedings.

The old workhorse of Nasa’s fleet, this will be Discovery’s final mission before it is finally retired and becomes a museum piece.

Lit up against the night sky, the shuttle was watched by crowds of shuttle workers and their families as it took its last ride to the pad on top of a giant transporter.

Flight to International Space Station will be voyage No.39 for old timer

Extraordinary pictures of great whites stripping a whale carcass shows they're actually quite picky eaters

Ever since Jaws, great whites have had a reputation as killing machines that has never seemed much point questioning.

However, that could all be about to change - after a study into the fearsome predators' dining habits.

Scientists towed a 36ft Brydes whale carcass into a well-known hunting ground for the animals in an exercise aimed at documenting how they tackled the huge free lunch.

And these amazing pictures show how up to 30 of them stripped a single whale carcass - and gave an 'extraordinary' insight into how the much-feared predators behave.

But while many would have expected a feeding frenzy and potentially lethal fights between the razor-teethed gians, the behaviour observed was quite different.

The sharks appeared to select choice cuts of the dead whale and did not appear to be aggressive towards each other.

Sharks preferred blubber and showed little aggression to one another
